Chamomile contains bisabolol and chamazulene, potent anti-inflammatory compounds that soothe the stomach lining and reduce acid production. Because stress is a major trigger for heartburn (cortisol increases acid secretion), chamomile's dual action as both a digestive soother and a calming nervine makes it uniquely effective for stress-related reflux and nighttime heartburn.
Steep 2-3 teaspoons dried chamomile flowers (or 2 tea bags) in 8oz boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime. For best results, drink 3-4 cups daily between meals.
Avoid if allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, or daisies (same plant family). May increase effects of blood thinners and sedatives. Generally very safe.
