Ginger is a powerful prokinetic that speeds gastric emptying — food moves through the stomach faster, reducing the chance of acid splashing up into the esophagus. Its anti-inflammatory gingerols and shogaols also reduce inflammation in the esophageal lining. Unlike antacids that mask symptoms, ginger addresses the root cause by improving motility.
Chew a small piece of fresh peeled ginger 20 minutes before meals. Or steep 1-inch fresh ginger in hot water for 10 minutes as tea. Take 250mg ginger capsules 3-4 times daily. Best used preventatively before meals.
Limit to 4g/day. May cause mild heartburn in very high doses (paradoxical). Avoid with blood thinners (warfarin). Reduce dose if it causes stomach warmth.
