Slippery Elm contains mucilage, a gel-like substance that coats and soothes the esophagus and stomach lining on contact. Native Americans have used it for centuries for digestive ailments. It forms a protective barrier that shields irritated tissue from stomach acid, providing rapid heartburn relief while allowing damaged tissue to heal naturally.
Mix 1-2 tablespoons of slippery elm powder in warm water to form a thick gel. Drink 30 minutes before meals or at bedtime. Also available as lozenges — dissolve 2-3 lozenges slowly in mouth as needed.
May slow absorption of other medications — take 2 hours apart from other supplements or drugs. Safe during pregnancy in food amounts.
