Doses exceeding 1500mg/day can cause severe GI distress including cramping, diarrhea, flatulence, and nausea. Very high doses may dangerously lower blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and blood pressure. Berberine inhibits CYP enzymes — excessive intake can cause dangerous drug interactions and toxicity of co-administered medications. May cause bilirubin displacement in infants (avoid during breastfeeding).
