Baking soda is a natural antacid that rapidly neutralizes stomach acid on contact. It provides the fastest natural relief for acute heartburn episodes by raising the pH of stomach acid from around 1-2 to a less irritating 3-4. While not suitable for daily chronic use, it is an excellent emergency remedy that works within minutes.
Dissolve ½ teaspoon baking soda in 4oz (half glass) of water. Drink slowly. Relief should occur within 5-15 minutes. Do not exceed 3 doses per day. Not for use beyond 2 weeks.
High in sodium — avoid with high blood pressure, kidney disease, or low-sodium diets. Not for chronic daily use — can cause metabolic alkalosis. Do not take within 2 hours of other medications. Avoid during pregnancy.
